The CWU Institutional Assessment and Research Team was funded in 2004 using a PT3 grant from the US Dept of Education. The team includes two faculty members from each of the College of Education (COE), School of Business, College of Fine Arts, and the Medical School. In 2006, the team established the Conceptual Framework for the College of Education.
The COE Conceptual Framework consists of the content, process, and media literacy standards that comprehensively address the primary knowledge skills and abilities of the teaching profession. The Conceptual Framework functions as the basis for the performance assessment that drives the college’s assessment plan. The assessment plan is documented in the COE’s Exhibit Room, which includes the system elements, revision plans, faculty resources (course websites, faculty websites, syllabi, and rubrics), student work samples, and reports.
The Institutional Assessment Team assists faculty in making resources accessible to students. For example, administrators can link appropriate resources to Tables of Contents. Resources like syllabi, class website and faculty website URLs are then accessible to the students as they complete assignments.
The CWU Institutional Assessment Team furnishes reports each semester to the faculty and department chairpersons upon request. Faculty members generally request the ‘Results by Rubric’ report for rubrics that are applicable to the courses that they teach. This particular report provides an overview of how the scores for all students who have completed the specific rubric compare to the performance standard.
The ‘Results by Standards’ report shows overall performance by individual standard. Time parameters for this report can be set to include any dates of interest.
